Who We Are
Mastery Schools New Zealand is a full time school for Year 1-8 ākonga who are disengaged, or at risk of disengaging from mainstream schooling. A student who is disengaged from mainstream school is generally working at a level that is below what is expected of them in one or more subjects. If a student is disengaged, this can lead to low attendance, behavioural issues, school stress or school refusal. The pressure to keep up in a mainstream school when a student is unable to meet the required expectations can burden a child to the point of disengagement.
Mastery Schools Australia & MSNZ
MSNZ is a partner school of Mastery Schools Australia (MSA). MSA has had phenomenal academic results since opening in 2021. Their most recent 2024 data shows:
- Reading: 1.8 years progress in 1 year
- Mathematics: 1.3 years progress in 1 year
- Spelling: average of 1.7 years growth after 1 year
Like MSA, MSNZ is based on exceptional teaching underpinned by the science of learning, quality curriculum and programmes, and high expectations of ākonga and staff. Students attend MSNZ to accelerate their academic foundations and resilience. We support them to re-enter mainstream education when they are ready. We meet students where they are at and ensure they have the proper support and systems to leverage their strengths and accelerate their learning.
